Quick bball update and then on to my clash with the old guy who lives in my building. We have had 3 practice games so far. Scrimmages out here are serious business. They all have 3 refs and the coaches treat them like real games. Foreigners throughout the league are already getting cut for under-performing. Thankfully my team has been cruising. I don’t want to be overconfident, but right now we are looking pretty damn good. The teams we have played are supposed to be decent and we have been blowing them out. The first game we were up 28-3 after 6 minutes. We have 3 solid guards, a 4 who can bomb from the perimeter, and a big who finishes everything. Offensively we will be a tough match up. I have been playing pretty well. Nothing special, just solid. Over the 3 games I have averaged 12 points, about 4 assists and 4 rebounds, with some steals sprinkled in. I can for sure score more, but as long as we’re winning and I’m playing I’ll be happy. Continue reading “ODWB”

trip to the MRI
Instead of being able to play in my first game I had to use the map seen above to get myself to the MRI center at Rambam Hospital. It was drawn by one of the managers minutes before I left. Armed with those not-quite mapquest worthy dircetions and zero hebrew skills, it was bound to be an adventure. I asked before I left: “Well, if I get lost, I can call you right?” He gave a non-reassuring “Well, I will be at the game so I hope I hear my phone.” Fantastic. Somehow, getting to the hospital itself was not that bad. The one wrong turn I made was easily corrected. But, the drive turned out to be the least of my troubles. Continue reading “trip to the MRI”
Some Bitter, Injury Induced Bitching
Another funny story about my roommate to kick things off, this one pertaining to his continued terrible taste in music and unintentionally comedic ways.We were on a ride out to Haifa, and since I was the one driving I figured I would pick the music. I put on Only Built for CubanLinx , a classic rap album.
My music consumption has gone way down since I have been out here, where I am without fast Internet and my nice speakers, so I was thoroughly enjoying the chance to listen to some decent music for once while we drove. As to be expected, about 4 songs in he abruptly turned off the cd player, stating that he “could not listen to it anymore” and that “he was past the phase in his life” where he listened to this type of music. Griping and Rambling
Still hurt, which sucks. Yesterday the assistant trainer told me that he thought I might be out for longer than he originally thought. He compared my injury to Troy Polamalu’s, and he’s supposed to be out 3-6 weeks.
It’s interesting how the pro football player got X-Rays and MRI’s, and he has a nice, semi-defined return date. I on the other hand got a glance and a simple “don’t worry, this happens to soccer players all the time. 10 days to 6 weeks.” Uhh, thanks?
So I go to the trainer today. And by go to the trainer I mean drive 10 miles, realize I don’t have coins for parking, get there too early, sit in my car sweating because I don’t want to turn the air on because I am so low on gas, ask a passing meter checker lady if she can make change and get denied, and finally heading inside after I borrow money from the trainer.
